Vegan Society

The Vegan Trademark has been helping you identify that a product is free of animal ingredients since 1990.
Dore Rooibos Cosmetics may carry the Vegan Society’s trademark, so you know it’s all good with our Vegan creds.

About the Vegan Society

The Vegan Trademark is the authentic international vegan standard and is administered by The Vegan Society.
This charity coined the word “vegan” in 1944.
The dedicated and experienced vegan team checks each product application against the criteria listed below and works with manufacturers and suppliers in various areas to ensure that each product meets the highest vegan standards.
The Vegan Trademark is renewed annually to ensure we have the most up-to-date information on all the products we certify.

Animals

The Vegan Society understands the word “animal” to mean the entire animal kingdom.
This includes all vertebrates and all multicellular invertebrates.
‘Animal’ can refer to a species or an individual; and is used as a noun or adjective, as required.
Unless otherwise stated, it usually means non-human animals.

Animal ingredients

No animal product, by-product or derivative shall be used or have been used in the manufacture and/or development of the product and its ingredients.

Animal testing

No animal testing may be performed in the development and/or manufacture of the product and its ingredients at the initiative of the company or on behalf of the company or by parties under the company’s actual control.

Genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

No animal genes or animal substances may have been involved in the development and/or production of GMOs.
Products submitted for trademark registration that contain or may contain GMOs must be labeled as such.

Kitchen and hygiene standards

Dishes that should be labeled vegan should be prepared separately from non-vegan dishes.
At a minimum, this means thoroughly washing surfaces and utensils before cooking vegan.
We strongly recommend purchasing a separate set of cleaning supplies for this purpose.
We ask that you be aware of the risk of cross-contamination from non-vegan sources in your kitchen or production line and that the trademark holder take all reasonable and practical steps to eliminate this.
We created the short video above to explain a little more about our cross-contamination requirements for restaurant dishes or menu items.
